were even competent sophists, they could very easily use the geological record to falsely claim that rising CO2 levels are "good" because the Earth is climbing out of a long-term ice age.  Unfortunately, the increases are occurring over mere decades - practically the speed of light over geologic time scales.  And there is also no reason to prefer Mesozoic conditions over the ones humans evolved in, even if the transition did not involve mass-extinctions and chaotic weather patterns.

We should definitely make sure that the climate change deniers don't learn about the "snowball earth" hypothesis, because they would then be bellowing hard that pumping epochal quantities of CO2 and CH4 into the atmosphere was actually a good thing.  Of course, they would need to get into some detail about how that worked out in only 6X10^3 years, but I'm sure that some biddable "scientist" would come forward to provide some semblance of an explanation.  Insofar as the climate deniers are concerned, I guess when you've smoked enough cigarettes in your lifetime what sort of threat does a little more C02 in the atmosphere pose to a climate denier?
