  •  20 sick days???? (0+ / 0-)

That's an entire month working 5 days a week.

My goodness!  What most folks would give to have that many paid sick leave days.  I wonder how that compares to most working folks in America.

But, then....these teachers are around kids and it's understandable that they could either contract illnesses from the kids or expose the kids to theirs.

Nice little benny though....if ya can get it.

We get 10 in my district. My second year teaching, I had to go to work sick a couple of times in the Spring, because I got caught up in a lovely little flu epidemic and got laid up for a week there. With a few other smaller illnesses, I was at nine days by March 15th.

I think rookie teachers are especially vulnerable to getting sick a lot, because you haven't been exposed to all the little herbs and spices that kids have...

    •  So change the system (0+ / 0-)

Most teachers don't USE their sick leave. Sometimes they have MANDATORY training to attend and miss class.

In Europe I believe workers get 6 weeks of vacation. Vacation/sick leave has the same net effect on employers.

There are RECORD PROFITS that could easily fund better working conditions for all with good government legislation.

Lets also NOT forget teachers are underpaid per hour compared to others with similar college education.

Also, deal with 150-180 high school kids, or 25 ish elementary schools kids can be emotianally draining on a good day, so sometimes teachers need a day to recharge.

Oh, look.....I get a tagline. I better not waste it. I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.
