  •  there is no reason to be glum? (15+ / 0-)

we are watching a democratic president get railroaded by the minority party into deals that a savvy politician would have headed off at the pass well before it became an issue.

i think we have many reasons to be glum - and the above poll data is just the tip of the iceberg.

Google it and WATCH IT TWELVE TIMES.  Then you will know why Obama's poll numbers are down.  His base is disgusted!

Where is Dylan Ratigan?  Yeah, he's "on vacation", "writing his book"...

MSNBC watched that unhinged rant twelve times and said to themselves, "we have got to get this guy off the air before he turns into Peter Finch!"

Unhinged rants aside, I think most people forget that thanks to the Blue Dogs and a considerable number of bought-and-paid-for House members as well as Senators, "ramming through" any progressive legislation between January 2009 and January 2011 was very difficult if not nearly impossible.

Just look at the number of filibusters, secret holds, and nail-bitingly close votes for nearly everything.

And look at the number of Obama appointments that STILL have not been OK'd by the Senate.  The Republicans would have even held up the Supreme Court appointments of  Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan until past next year if there was any way they could get away with it.

Then, just to make governance even more difficult, Dems and Independents either forgot entirely about politics after the 2008 election, or became petulant when they didn't see their pet agendas at the top of Obama's list of Things To Do.

So they Just Showed Him! by not showing up at the polls last November.  Real smart, all you people who are now ranting like Dylan Ratigan.

Wealthy Republicans who don't want to pay taxes and Teapartiers who don't want government OR taxes seem to be more motivated than Dems and Indies who think they're living in simplier times when electronic stock market gambling, sleazy bankers, Koch Industries, Big Oil and Murdoch didn't monopolize the national agenda.

Dylan's rant was poorly focused, and so are progressive rants.  They better get better organized, and aimed in the right direction -- or even the best of that moronic GOP field of candidates is going to turn this country into 18th century Europe.

Even if one of the moronic GOP field of candidates is unsuccessful in being the candidate versus Obama, that also plays into the agenda of the Republican puppetmasters for the next 4 years.

They've made Obama the scapegoat, however false their claims and lies, for everything that's happened since the beginning of Bush's second term.

They'll be quite happy to continue that agenda for another four years, until the majority of the American electorate is so brainwashed by right-leaning media that they'll believe Obama has been incompetent for a solid 8 years.

Then, the no-regulations, no-minimum-wage, tax-the-poor-and-coddle-the-rich, small-government (yet, pack all levels of government with as many cronies as they can) Republicans/Teapartiers will permanently take over Washington DC and all 3 branches of our government, thanks to a propaganda machine that runs circles around Daily Kos, Firedoglake, etc.

The depressed poll number have nothing to do with his base. It is Independents.

    •  Of course that is not the only reason (0+ / 0-)

That matters of course, but look who has even worse approval ratings right now. People realize that a shit storm is going on and its not good.

Its not just Obama's fault believe it or not...
