  •  that's some wrong "big oil" propaganda (5+ / 0-)

    it matters a great deal where the oil is drilled and refined. That's why gas in Saudi Arabia is cheaper than gas in New York. The closer the wells and refineries are the cheaper the products. Canada could develop the sands for domestic consumption and have very cheap petroleum products but big oil wants more profits so they'll export it. Just remember it isn't "fungible" until and unless the pipelines are built.

    Of course big oil wants people to believe its myths about the global market so they can fix prices around the world.

      even for Canada's domestic market.

      Gasoline made from the tar sands gives a Toyota Prius the same impact on climate as a Hummer using gasoline made from oil. ~ Al Gore

      government owns the oil fields and shares some of its profits with its people in the form of cheap gas.  Sheesh!
