of social democracy in Israel than in the US, e.g. public schools, universities, health care, unions, etc. It's only been in the past two decades that Israel's leaders have deliberately tried to replace this with a neoliberal system. What happened was that Israel became a top-tier economic and technological power with a high standard of living for many, but at the cost of much greater wealth and income disparity and a larger and poorer underclass. We're seeing the inevitable consequences of that here.

And the reason we're seeing it in Israel and not the US (obvious exceptions such as Madison, WI notwithstanding) is, I think, because Israel has a long history of social democracy, as opposed to the US, which only took social democracy part of the way, and Israel's citizens are motivated and energized by a collective memory of that social democracy, which we don't have in the US. So I suspect that change will happen sooner in Israel than you think. When, and if, it will happen in the US, is harder to predict.

But I think it will happen here too. Underlying social democracy is democracy itself, which we do have a long history of. Sooner or later, our democratic "DNA" will start to assert itself again. I really do believe that. The conservative experiment will fail, because it's unsustainable, and undemocratic.
