    open it's border to these people??? At least they could receive aid....if there was a refugee crisis maybe someone would pay attention.

      Not sure where you're getting your information.  Kenya, itself a struggling developing country, is providing massive amounts of assistance by hosting the refugee camps for Somali famine victims.

      You may have been confused by a news report a few weeks ago about a kerfuffle between Kenya and international aid groups about the opening of one particular refugee camp -- a new one built by Kenya just for the purpose of helping foreign refugees -- but there are several already operating.

      Despite the western-centric news reports we often read, Kenya is providing the bulk of the aid in terms of actual manpower, human resources and hospitality, even if the money comes from elsewhere.

      One of the interesting things about African international relations is that because African governments recognize that borders are artificial artifacts of colonialism, there is a strong consensus that all countries allow the free movement of people across borders, especially during humanitarian crises.

      Hence, Kenya did not have to "open its borders"; its borders are generally always open to people from other neighboring African countries.
