  •  Good Morning Phil (5+ / 0-)

the chase is 12 drivers eligible to compete for the Sprint Cup in the last ten races.
    so It's a race in a race.
still 43 cars in every race.

they added two wild cards to it.
the top ten in points enter whether they win a race or not.
the wild cards are sellected on their performance

winning a race being better than just being 11th in points.
those wild card spots are picked from the top 20 though.

    to complicated!
I'm a chase hater in general, this made it a tiny bit more exceptable though.

David Ragan could have raced his way in at Richmond with a win. he finished 4th. David ended the first 26 races in 19th.

I think 13th in points 10 weeks from now get 1 million for it.

Eeff gave a great explanation of the Chase.

I am not a fan of the Chase either, because in the past, the Championship was based upon cumulative year long excellence.  Several times under the Chase format, the winner would not have been the champion under the old system. But us fans have to accept that is how it is done now.

The Chase was created to simulate football playoffs and to create excitement in the fall when racing competes with football for viewers. I am fond of saying that NASCAR has football envy.  LOL

My top two drivers are both in the Chase so I guess I am "happy" about that. Also, eeff's top driver is also in the Chase too.
