    Once upon a time, Republicans actually gave a shit about governing, and when they did, this is precisely the sort of semi-populist move they would make when it came time to do so.

    And then when the crisis was averted, the tax breaks would be re-inserted into the code.

    It allowed Republicans who actually weren't insane to appear reasonable.

    And now it's what passes for fierce progressivism.

    The real enemy of the good is not the perfect, but the mediocre.

      I have is when it's claimed to be "left wing" in some sense.

      That's an abuse of language -- that's Orwellian, which makes it impossible for folks to make sense. Anything they like is labeled with their tribal denominator, without any kind of intellectual honesty or ideological consistency.

      That's why teabaggers can survive -- once you kill any requirement of intellectual honesty, the most fascist elements can fill the space. The "left" acts as an enabler by turning ideological fights into pure power.
