    Why is Obama already negotiating with himself before he's even begun to negotiate with Repubs, by saying that he'd sign a smaller bill or a bill in pieces? What advantage does he get from that? Why couldn't he just say "I'm open to discussing specifics with the GOP leadership but I'm pushing for a full bill and that's what I expect to get." I.e. be firm but not adamantine.

    Does he still not understand how to negotiate? You get zero points for being nice and overly flexible. Actually, you get negative points for it because the other side rightly sees it as weakness and pounces on it. This is what he learned playing basketball? Who did he play against, five foot five tax accountants?
