  •  I do find the contrast with Terry Schiavo weird (8+ / 0-)

    The conventional analysis of the Schiavo case is that the people weeping outside her hospital were marginal personalities who fear withdrawing of life support (and abortion) out of a deep-seated fear of personal annihilation.  And this accounts for much of the Right wing rigidity of thought--can't let any contrary opinion in lest the entire edifice collapse.

    But calling for the death of the less fortunate because they gambled on not paying for private health insurance because if its cost is something else.  Perhaps it is isolating the less fortunate to insulate themselves from their fate, kind of like Shirley Jackson's short story "The Lottery" which we all had to read in school.

    Or just maybe they figure that if 10% of the population dies en tree will be more for them.

    The scientific uncertainty doesn't mean that climate change isn't actually happening.
