    Most New York African American pols supported Clinton early on because all politics is local, and she was their senator.

    Most African Americans of my acquaintance came to supporting him rather late because they understood the depth of the prejudice he'd be facing and assumed that either he couldn't win, or he'd be physically harmed if he did. As it turned out, neither has happened, but I am convinced that even a Clinton presidency wouldn't have met with these levels of obstruction from on high and just plain hatred from below. Plenty, yes, but not this much.

    FYI, he had earlier support among both AA pols and AA citizens, in Brooklyn, where the upstarts are.

    The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
