the Progressive Movement has been pretty crappy.

I am not sure our lifetimes are good barometers of how to do it.

"Progressive Movement" really means nothing to me.  I don't actually see a real one.  I see individual progressives -- many agendas.  Progressives can get under different umbrellas and move things forward.

So, for me -- my lifetime is a gauge of sorts.  When I graduated from high school -- Ivy League collages were closed to me as a woman.  The air, water and ground were toxic over millions of acres.  Windmills were artifacts of the past not the future.  No one other than scientists could imagine trapping the sun for energy.  My two major job opportunities after high school/college were nursing and teaching.  All of these movements forward were because of Progressive thinking -- but not one movement.

Anyone my age (66) would have to admit that the left has made tremendous progress since WWII - integration of the military, school integration, civil rights, war on poverty, Medicare, women's rights, gay rights to just name a few, and every one of those victories made the right angrier and frustrated...kind of like we feel now that the right has successfully mobilized and begun rolling back many of our greatest progressive programs.

Now at a time when we are desperately trying to hold onto our past victories, we find we have little help at the top.  Obama has turned out to be a bait-and-switch President, and that has badly demoralized much of his base.  We need to get angry instead.
