    right off the bat.  Then, if reality and research indicates that any cuts were, in fact, necessary and appropriate, he would then have to rescind his veto threat and, in effect, call himself a liar.

    Nothing "politically disastrous" about that approach.

        You still don't win by starting the betting by telling everyone what is and is not in your hand.

        Truth be told, all of this may very well come down to picking the least "bad" of a bunch of bad options.  That is the mess that the profligate spending of Reagan and the Bushes has left us to clean up.
