but a Western it's not.  The Good, The Bad & The Ugly is a great film, with a great cast and story.

Lee Van Cleef's character is one of the great "bad guys."  Eli Wallach was tremendous.  I love the film.

Sergio Leone and Eli Wallach later had a very bitter falling out over a film Leone wanted Wallach to be in.  Wallach turned down a very good role in another film in order to work again with Leone, but Leone couldn't raise the money to make the film, leaving Wallach in the lurch.

He notified Wallach over the phone that the film was not going to happen, to which a stunned Wallach screamed over the phone "I'll sue you!"

Sergio told him to get in line.

    •  Actually i was thinking of Major Dundee (0+ / 0-)

and Peckinpah took some inspiration from The Searchers, though it's fairly bizarre plot. Interestingly, I did some reading and found The Searchers was also inspired by Brit Johsnon, an African American settler whose family was kidnapped. Now that's a story I'm waiting to see filmed! Call Denzel....
