  •  Israel has nothing to lose. (9+ / 0-)

It can do whatever it wants with the blessings of the US. This is the odd wag the dog relationship the US has with Israel.

Israel has to have something to lose, tangibly, before it will drag itself out of the status quo. A worldwide boycott, a la South Africa, of Israel may be the result of this latest episode of stinking duplicity by the US

Oh yeah, we're for self-determination and democracy, except when it suits our interests to back an incorrigible ally instead.

And by the way, exactly what WAS the reason Obama thought statehood at the UN is such a bad idea anyway?

The biggest reason Israel is opposed to this is that it would give Palestine standing in the ICC and it could take Israel to that court concerning the illegal ( under international law) settlements.

The last thing Israel wants is for the Palestinians to have ANY standing internationally. Easier to play them along that way.

There will never be negotiations with Israel as long as Netanyahoo and his far right government are in power.

Maybe all this activity will finally bring his government down.
