  •  I was in Tulum a few years ago (11+ / 0-)

Back when business was good we won a trip from our biggest vendor for selling boat loads of product. The sponsored trip was to some 5 star, all inclusive, marble encased monstrosity. My husband and I extended the trip and spend 4 days in one of the funky little hotels about 2 miles south of the ruins. All the little resorts were powered with wind mills and the water was trucked in, we much preferred funky to the marble monstrosity.

Thanks for the wonderful pictures and the history to back it up.

In fact, in many resorts, the funky will cost you far more than the monstrosity.

      Why?

You have to have a lot of money to have the luxury of "getting it away from it all".
