  •  sadly, the poll pts out why we're in this disaster (6+ / 0-)

the right wing's best weapon by far, and most essential one, is almost totally ignored by the people it is designed to attack 24/7.

it's as if every day the think tanks and their scripted blowhards stand up on every corner and stump in the country and scream liberals and their families and their ideas are shit and treasonous. and the collective left just walks on by with their iPods in their ears.

there is NO organized challenge to the alternative reality they get to pound into the ears of 50 mil a week, protected by call screeners and reinforced by paid callers.

Progressives will lose all major messaging battles until they picket the limbaugh/hannity megastations and boycott those stations' local sponsors.

      •  boycott local sponsors that pay station overhead (5+ / 0-)

it doesn't take much listening to get a few numbers to call.

very few will defend the blowhards and many are shocked to get complaints- they've never heard  them before

        some i've talked with switched

in blue communities this could be very effective if more people did it- and i might not take a lot

to advertise on a program and are getting negative feedback because of it , they will quickly realize that their advertising dollars are having a complete reverse affect to what they want .

          •  If you look at the poll results here... (0+ / 0-)

It's pretty clear that radio stations running right wing radio are driving away a big chunk of potential listeners. And not just any listeners - how much disposable income do we have, what kind of goods do we like to buy? We're not going to get it from their advertisers if we can help it.

            •  but RW radio is where much of america gets traffic (0+ / 0-)

weather and local news and they have shown they only need a minority to enable politicians and media to take the money.

a well-misinformed well coordinated minority is all it takes to enable this shit if no one gets in their face.

market forces haven't been working here- it is a monopoly and overall they aren't selling restaurant food and penile enhancement formula, they're selling war and deregulation and tax breaks. but those stations need local sponsors for legitimacy and to pay overhead- to be the pillars of local society, to deserve to be able to broadcast the local sports teams.
