  •  That really sounds typical. (9+ / 0-)

It's the whole "þetta reddast" spirit.  It means "things work themselves out", but really, it's that the people do their best to make things work out.  When my driver's license was lost (along with my passport, credit cards, etc), the car rental agency, without a question, just shifted the name on the reservation to Elaine and thought it funny that I thought there might be a problem.  At the club where it was lost, and nobody could find it, the club owner sent out a message to his 30,000 Facebook subscribers and it was found.  All sorts of stuff like that.  We were freaking out, but their reaction was basically, "look, this is Iceland -- you don't need to don't worry about it so much  :) "  They also laughed at the fact that I took the time to put holds on my credit cards.

chasing ballerinas around Philly with Johannes was pretty much super awesome, as he was a girl magnet and perpetually smiling.
      Those were really fun times.
We used to make fun of him for popping his polo collar.
      He was undaunted.

When the world is running down, you make the best of what's still around.
