in taxes because I made far higher than average income. I also had employess in my front companies, etc.

Now my tax bill is much smaller because all of the jobs require a "background check" (and, yes, I did try to get on with the CIA, since I was well experienced, but they never responded.)

(By the way, thanks for your service. I doubt that you volunteered for the Drug War, but what matters is that you volunteered.)

There can be no protection locally if we're content to ignore the fact that there are no controls globally.

    •  No, I didn't volunteer for the drug war (0+ / 0-)

As I got higher in rank, I came to view the drug war as an utter waste of effort and resources.  The problem never was drugs themselves, it was the criminality associated with smuggling an illegal substance.  If toothpaste were illegal and if there were an illicit market for it, there would be violence associated with toothpaste smuggling.  Users would be easier to spot because of their minty breath, but I digress.

What I said about legalization is pretty much how I feel.  I am a little conflicted about legalizing stuff like heroin, but as I see it, we can either have a public health problem, or have a public health problem and a smuggling problem.  It seems smarter to avoid creating the latter so we can focus on the former.
