  •  Sounds exactly like what happened to my husband (4+ / 0-)

he world for a substrate R&D in Northern Calif.  They sold it to a company in Malaysia and got a freaking tax break for doing so.  My spouse learned of it as he was driving into work.  They went over each paperclip, each pad of paper.

    We had nothing.

They then "offfered" him a few bucks to go over and teach the KIDS how to do his job.

We had just watchd Moore's The Big One and we told them to suck it.  We weren't taking any money to instruct someone who had just taken our job.

The company was Komag Material Inc.

I understand companies selling their businesses overseas.  BUT why in hell do they get a tax break in the millions for doing so?  $25 million for a few and the rest of us got fucked.

    Buy American.  By Americans.

      have worked out for you.

I have come to believe firmly in buying american, and buying local where ever possible. It really does create jobs, I know, that is where mine came from.

      Good luck to you.

5 years getting back on our feet.  Along with the loss of job we also incurred "medical debt". Something most people inother countries have never heard of.

I think he had 3 small jobs after that.  We were about to leave the country as expats and he posted his resume on a Costa Rica board.  The company he works for now saw it and asked him if he'd like to move to Oregon instead.

Things are much better here now.  thank you.

I work for a grocery store in the Portland area that supports farmers, ranchers, berry patches, cheese makers, fisherman, sheep herders... all local.  We are very fortunate in Oregon.  I have no idea why anyone would buy food from out of state if they live in Oregon. :) Sustainability.. it's needed on so many levels.

Except for coffee and chocolate... but I get those direct trade.

I love to hear success. It seems like so many people are going through trails these days.

I bet I even know what grocery store you are working for :). Organizations like that, I believe, are leaders pointing us in the direction we need to go in the future.

It is funny how things work out, in the end, often for the better. In my life I don't have the income I once did but I do have alot of non monetary benefits, everything from reduced stress to a 20% discount on food, that make life so much better.

I truly wish that for everyone.

Trust me it's not Whole Frauds :)

We're the Friendliest Store in town that is possibly getting "too big" now.

It has great bennies and tries very hard to be progressive but it's still an "at will" environment.  Meaning they can fire you or "let you go" for any reason.
