  •  Your problem is that nobody said that. (2+ / 0-)

Not the diarist, no one. Plenty of people here have excuses, and some of them are damn good ones, but why hate on someone who got past their excuses (they had no training that was in demand) and shared their story?

    •  Apparently.... (0+ / 0-)

I wasn't the only one that felt this way about what was said huh?

I get that the diarist said....she found a path and worked it.
I get that the diarist thinks she is being helpful.

But in my opinion the diarist said it in such a way as to insinuate that people are just not looking hard enough...that they must not be "not like her" or they would be successful now too!....they ANYONE could do what she did. However, many of us also felt that she overlooked one essential element in her story. Her incredible luck.

She happened to find "be a mystery shopper" opportunities that were legitimate. Do you realize how many of those things are just scams? That's the other thing that today's unemployed face unlike never before....the enormous amount of scams trying to take advantage of their plight. For a while in SC there was a company that wanted you to pay $50 application fee...just to apply.

So no...this diarist DID get lucky too....and damn near everyone who is unemployed are going to the ends of the earth to find gainful employment. They do not need others to tell them things that make them feel like they are just not looking hard enough.

What would have been more helpful if this diarist had of spent more time explaining how to determine the scams from the legitimate opportunities as most of those like she is describing ARE.

      •  Don't presume to speak for the diarist. (0+ / 0-)

The diarist is perfectly capable of speaking for themselves, they don't need you running around saying what they "really" meant.

Honestly., is it really so hard to just take something at face value?  Why do you have to assume there's some nefarious or denegrating subtext?

Let there be balance in all things.

    •  By the way (0+ / 0-)

the diarist several times in several comments....discounted the notion that there was luck involved in what happened to her. THAT is why.

      •  Why are you so obsessed with the "luck" factor? (0+ / 0-)

Why does it help to add that to the conversation? Why does it help to concentrate on that?

Did the diarist say "and that's why we don't need UE to be extended?" Did she say "it's all because of ME ME ME?" If anything, she noted her luck several times, including randomly meeting people that could hire her on the spot.

I guess she's also "lucky" not to have been hit by a truck yesterday, right?
