kill new t echnology by creating makework jobs for technocrat losers?

How about we just let creative people be creative without the leech control freaks get their paws in/grab their cut and limit technology.

    •  Yeah, (10+ / 0-)

cuz standardizing 60hz alternating current killed home electronics, or the USB standard killed the iPod.

    •  Standards are good (11+ / 0-)

Just take a look at computer networking.  We have standard protocols.  We have standard cabling and connectors.  Basically the way data gets from point a to point b is very standardized.  This has not stopped the advancement in technology one bit, we get faster every year, but the standardization allows and vendor to produce their product and know it will work with any other vendors product and be backwards compatible.

I see this as a good thing for electric cars.  It would really suck to spend 5K for your electrician to set up a charger for your Chevy Volt and then when you buy your Nissan Leaf three years later you have to spend another 2K to change everything over to a new system.  What would be cool is to standardize on a plug.  Standardize on the size of a battery  container, a way to monitor the battery array and a way that the array would connect to the cars power system.  Then as many people mentioned above, you could buy your car sans battery.  If you have a good battery from your last car you'd just have it installed.  Or, you could choose from a wide selection of batteries that would have different qualities and prices.

      •  The technology is brand new (0+ / 0-)

it is the equivalent of requiring computers in 85 to only use the http protocol.. and the protocol of the time. Or requiring all modems to use X 300 baud protocol. It shackles the very people who create and grow the technology to asuage the needs of control freaks. (and lets face it we are all control freaks).
