since we are headed for a long period of a very bad time, this would be an excellent transitional form which would be invaluable in economically depressed areas of both the advanced capitalist world and the capitalist periphery. It is transitional in the sense that it transforms the way that people work together and work towards a different form and also with a different recognised formation it will enable a transition far more easily to a proper worker owned and operated economic system.

While there is much to be said about operating locally in a region, there is also much to be said about extended cooperatives linked across regions. But for them to be proper cooperatives laws need to be changed that limit the manner in which cooperatives function in the advanced capitalist world.

That would be game changing indeed.

the system for changing the laws is at a point of total closure.  It's so corrupt, so bought-off, that the prospects of making these kinds of legal changes are slim to none.  The mechanisms simply do not work anymore.

Rather than this fact leading us to despair it should lead us to clear-eyed understanding of what is to be done.  If the system no longer works you have to change the system.

We should rid our ranks of all impotent thinking. All views that overestimate the strength of the enemy and underestimate the strength of the people are wrong. -- Mao Zedong
