and decide that he wants the population deviations down (they really should be, in all honesty).

Ok, so I read the polls.

It makes the heart sing.  Plus with all of the at large council members, it seems like there isn't much dilution with the 9.5% variation.

So the lines look smooth? So what?

I'd like to make it easier for people to serve their constituents, not make it so each councilman has the same number of constituents.

The old 7th would make visiting the whole district an adventure each day, not that its actually done.  Besides, the variance between the size of the districts isn't that much.

is really an absurd position, but it is also a false dichotomy in this case. You can do much better on the population front than they did with perfectly "clean" lines.

Its about not having to drive 30 miles to see constituents or having to take a train and 3 buses.

I'd take constituent service improvement over population equality every day.  If we move the 7th back to the way it was, do you think they get better service?

So Councilman X has to represent a few thousand more people than Councilman Y.  if the districts make it easier to serve the populations its an improvement.
