May you both enjoy many, many more times three years together, cancer-free.
Bummer about the lost wages. Can he work the earlier or later half of the day and split the difference somehow?

    •  Bus driving doesn't work that way (2+ / 0-)

You've got a set schedule, and you have to have a minimum of time off before your next workday.

Sometimes he can work a scheduled day off (for him, Saturday or Sunday) if they need people, but we both feel strongly about the need for proper downtime from the rigors of work so he does it very seldom. I remember one of his colleagues who worked pretty much 7 day weeks, putting in the overtime so he could build up his savings before retirement -- then a couple of months before he was planning to retire, crashed his motorcycle on the way home from work and was killed instantly. Never knew if fatigue might have played a factor in the accident (certainly wasn't booze or drugs), but it had an impact on my spouse and a lot of other drivers at the yard.

As long as he doesn't do it too often, it doesn't hurt that much -- and I try to remind him that his health has to take first priority.
