I've made this argument before, and what I always get back in return is both simple to express and difficult to rebut.

"Who's forcing them to have gay sex?"
    "Who's forcing them to cross-dress?"
"Who's forcing them to get a sex change?"
"Who's forcing them to be flamboyant?"
    "No-one."
"Exactly!  They're making a choice to be gay!"

This is what conservatives mean when they argue that being gay is a choice.  They can make this argument with a straight face because as far as I can tell, they believe that "gay" is something you do, not something you are.  They believe heterosexuality is something you chose to do as well - no-one's forcing straight people to get married and have kids, etc.  For many of them, there's nothing inside us that compels us to live one way or another - only choices we make based on the values we've been given.  Many of them will freely admit that their own ideal is every bit as unnatural as they think being gay is; the only thing it has going for it is God's stamp of approval.

Do you know why they call it the American Dream? Because it only happens when you're asleep.

      marriage equality.

They insist that a gay man can get the same marriage rights.  If he marries a woman.  Therefore gay people have equal marriage rights.

They can argue for incentivizing heterosexual marriage because in their minds no-one would do it on it's own merits because either we just don't care or we're eager to spite God.
