  •  I'm sorry to say you're probably right. (6+ / 0-)

I suppose success is relative. No matter how bad things get, there will always be people who are doing better than others, who feel that there is a reason why they are succeeding, and that reason has something to do with who they are, and not anything external. It is a character flaw, and it's too bad that it can't be overcome before it becomes ingrained, but it can't.

So good work to all the teachers out there who get the message through to students before they become permanently desensitized.

    •  It is Calvinism, a strain strong in america (0+ / 0-)

that is preserved by the richest because it suits them.

It was the stupidity of the management of GM that drove it into the ground — yet they managed to turn it into not their fault, it was the union and the high pay and the absurd benefits and the high cost of the health care and the government regulation and the runaway courts and and and....

The guys at the top show over and over that they are lazy, ignorant, and mired in the past. If it was a big success before they just need to try it again harder. lash them workers.

So when the Volkswagon beetle came in and almost took over, Ford bet its lot on the Edsel. GM built them bigger and better and spent billions selling them to us by basing your status on the car you drive.

      And so on.

I'm asking you to believe. Not in my ability to bring about real change in Washington ... *I'm asking you to believe in yours.* Barack Obama
