A talent was not a coin from the time, it's a measure of weight.   And not a small one.

A widow who had a talent to spare,  of any currency, was not poor. Wikipedia gives several options but none is less than 50 pounds. Whether it's that much in silver or in gold, it's a literal chunk o' change.

In The Parable of the Talents, the guy handing out talents isn't saying "Here's a couple of bucks, see what you can do with it." He's asking for help with a significant amount of wealth, on the order of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

and Jesus was particular in stating that the widow had nothing but "a mite"... 2 coins in the smallest denomination of the realm...

Fear doesn't just breed incomprehension. It also breeds a spiteful, resentful hate of anyone and everyone who is in any way different from you.

"... a disciplined minority of totalitarians can use the instruments of democratic government to undermine democracy itself." -- Hannah Aredt, regarding the behavior of the National Socialist (NAZI) Party in the Reichstag in the Weimar Republic.
