    tax on the currency markets, but it is often used to describe a general financial transactions tax these days; so I am assuming that we are talking about the same thing and that is what I was referring to when I talked about how people wanted to spend the revenue.

    The differences we are seeing in the current proposal is that the revenue would be spent differently which is one of my problems. Richard Lyon below has pointed out that the spot currency markets (which adds a lot of instability) would be exempted under the free movement of capital laws in the EU, which is extremely problematic to say the least.
