  •  But the Bush 2000 states... (1+ / 0-)

have more EV's now than they did in 2000.

I think the Bush 2000 states picked up 8 EV's from 2000 to 2004.  I would guess the GOP states picked up a few more in 2010.  CO afterall, only has 9 EV's.

If the GOP wins the Bush 2000 states, and loses only CO, I think Obama is still a one-termer.

    •  Quite possibly true, (0+ / 0-)

but Obama is not going to lose New Hampshire, for instance, and the argument for Colorado staying in Obama's column holds even more strongly for Nevada.  I ran those numbers, and Obama gets 272 EVs (without splitting ME or NE and assuming PA doesn't split its votes).  That's even losing both FL and OH.  (This is the same as giving the GOP all of the states that http://www.270towin.com/ considers "very close").  Of course, the anti-Hispanic arguments apply to strengthen Obama's position in Florida, and the stronger Obama is in NV, NM, and CO means he can spend more time defending gains in OH, IN, VA, and NC, not to mention MO and MT which were very close last time.
