  •  Way cool! I have always thought that cell therapy (6+ / 0-)

    would whup gene therapy's ass - cells are so, so much smarter than genes. The 3D printing to assemble the tissues or organs is that extra touch.

    I had fun in the early 90's playing a bit with printing patterns for muscle cells. The plastic of overheads that can be printed on by a xerox machine is compatible with cell culture so we tried printing several patterns and plated out muscle cells on them. Long narrow parallel lines gave very beautiful muscle because it facilitated the organizing the cells would do on their own. Snowflakes on the other hand really, really confused the poor muscle cells.
