  •  God I wish they didn't do this (0+ / 0-)

This is no time to be the "Fall of many protests".

I thought that was another name for this or a different time, confusing, didn't even think about it.

We've got enough to think about just hoping and willing this one into existence...

SlutWalk, October 11, any one right now, why don't you just join under this name and go down there! First things first.

That's all they need is more confusing marches and groups to water down an intensely fragile effort!!

Just join OccupyWallStreet,  you will definitely hurt the message.

That is the opposition's main talking point right now, that they are protesting everything under the sun and just a bunch of kids looking for a protest. The last thing they need is a totally different protest. Join under the main entity occupywallstreet and let them keep defining and clarifying the message.

    •  Well (14+ / 0-)

this has been planned for many months, and there are very good people involved: no doubt because of OWS, Wall Street will be a major focus; it would've been in any case. The protests will dovetail nicely. The more the merrier.

Generally, I find too many lefties worrying about the potential downsides of, well, everything. They're too hippieish! They're not dressed well enough! What will Mr. and Mrs. Normal American think?! It's too Vague! Slutwalk will hurt!

But hey, it's doing its pretty well, with establishment groups not shying away from affiliating with it. Clearly, those DFHs are doing something right.

The press will be hostile to it regardless, focusing on the more alternative people and extremist statements, and people will give the press plenty of material. So what? The important thing is to keep this thing going, to support it anyway we can, and not get bogged down in the imperfections and potential hiccups. Onward.

        The more the merrier!
This is not a zero-sum game. It's time to get off our seat(s), on our feet, and in the Street!
This is about We the People owning and operating our Nation, having our voices heard and our Will being done.
Yes, it's time to stop (and reverse) the growing income inequality that's strangling our Nation. It's also time to end the stupid wars, and it's ALWAYS time to call bullshit on sexism and apologists for rapists. There is never a wrong time for that message.
We're all in this together, we 99%ers (and those of the 1% who support us), there's room for all of us.

The key word in all of this is: SOLIDARITY!

It's important to understand real democracy includes more than voting and needs to have "feet on the ground" on issues that need to involve more than voter registration and "get out the vote" (which are also essential).

Democracy is messy ... when "we the people" are involved at a strategic level. Otherwise, it's dominated by proxies for the wealthy, which always evidence good taste and polite manners. Until it's time to direct their proxies to smash a few faces or assault people with pepper spray.

        Onward indeed.

In a democracy dissent is an act of faith. Like medicine, the test of its value is not in its taste, but in its effects. J. William Fulbright

    •  no! the october 2011 movement is an (7+ / 0-)

amazing well done effort, which in no way is in conflict with the wall street movement.  in fact the two are amazingly congruent. there is power in the fact that they are both occurring, and both are at a national level.

Vote GOP in 2012; let's prove the Mayans right!

    •  they ARE (12+ / 0-)

protesting everything under the sun. Because that's what's broken. I find it refreshing that they refuse to be stuffed into the oppositions game play. The opposition wants them to pick demands and one cause because they can combat that. If the message is "your whole burrito is clusterf*cked, establishment," I mean...how do you answer that?

One great big festering neon distraction, I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied.

The message is loud and clear no matter what the MSM does or doesn't do to divert and distract. And New York's a big enough city to handle a couple of issues (or more) at one time. It's a big enough country for October 11 too.

We've had enough. THAT is the message, apply it to anything and everything you can think of. There are a million things wrong. I say hit the streets and make it known you've had enough. We won't get shit until we can pull off some massive general strikes. This is stage dressing.
