    postal services. They must be under similar forces regarding email, increased gas prices, etc. Anyone know what other countries are doing?

      Here is an article about the privatized mail service in the Netherlands.  It isn't pretty.

      The problem is that congress, in 2006 legislation, said they have to prepay 75 years worth of health care in 10 years time.

      That is the sole problem. It was legislation designed to make USPS fail.

        Would that the 2006 PAEA were the sole problem.  PAEA was one salvo by the plunderers and privatizers.  The fundamental problem is, the enemies of public service have captured the Postmaster General, the Inspector General, and the Board of Governors.  Merely repealing PAEA will not remove the moneychangers from the temple.  USPS management will proceed with dismantling the postal network, in violation of current law, with or without the pretext of a manufactured financial crisis.
