      I was taught that ANYTHING advocating a political position or stance, whether tied to a particular candidate or party or not, was something that you could not take part in while in uniform without explicit instruction from your chain of command.

      The rule of thumb I was told was, "Don't get arrested while in uniform."

        overly politicized or partisan militaries.

        then again, they also swear and oath to defend the country from all enemies, foreign and domestic, which sort of politicizes them right off the bat.

        i can totally appreciate the reasoning behind the (often violated) wall between military and the civilian political sphere. when the right has uniformed military as props, it freaks me out.
