  •  May #1199 also bring FOCUS to this protest! (0+ / 0-)

There's no doubt this sustained protest is raising consciousness. But that will not be enough.

As of now, there are too many "grievances," no quotable spokesman and no actionable issues. The media is giving attention to the size of the crowds, traffic stoppages and police conduct more than it is to the messages that might be in somewhere within all this melee.

Hopefully, more union involvement will provide what unions excel at in their protests - a clear message and a call to action.

As I proposed in a comment elsewhere:

The group needs to pick a small committee to specify three grievances and for each, propose for one or two doable-right-now action items. Then, it needs to find a spokesman who speaks in short, tight declarative sentences.

And it needs to enlist a public interest group with moxie to locate sympathetic MSM reporters and help them tell the story in human terms, both about the protesters (e.g. why they can speak with authority and personal knowledge) and the issues (lots of facts and details of what to do next).

And most important to do now ... send a delegation from the New York group to Capitol Hill to visit offices of sympathetic Congressmen and Senators. The follow through will generate its own attention. Do this soon!

    •  Yay! let's coopt the most exciting (2+ / 0-)

Movement in years! That way we can alienate people and let this fizzle into an electioneering scheme. Those of us here are not going to let that happen.

I refuse to represent my political beliefs using numbers. It isn't accurate, nor is it helpful. But I'm around a -10 on both scales.

of wanting sound bites and 3 piece suits.  These folks are doing very well thank you and better than I have seen done in ages.

Start your own protest love.  Find people who will join you and your list of demands and go for it.  There are certain enough places and enough spaces for you to have at it.
