    of speed, which is deccelaration. But I'm still confused about changing the rate of the rate of the change of speed which would be changing the acceleration.  Geez - I've really forgotten all that science and calculus I took ages ago. I feel like a dummy. But I believe you. Also, my husband convinced me to throw out my old textbooks. But you've got me hooked. I'll have to look it up on the web.

      I'm confusing it with the notion that acceleration can be accelerated -- which is what my original question was. So, yes, acceleration can change.
