    ...which goes back until when I was a kid in the 50s, local schools were habitually underfunded.  Local politicians have always thought that's the way things should be, that somehow schools would do better on a starvation diet.

      But there is a difference between the first nine rounds of a boxing match when a fighter is continually getting waled upon and that moment in the tenth round when his opponent shatters the fighter's nasal bone and drives it into his brain.

      This is the tenth round for public education.
