because he is way better than the alternatives. Here in NJ, NJEA has witheld support of turncoat Dems who backed Christie's Pen/Ben cuts. Obama is not much better philosophically than the thugs when it comes to charters and such, but he is a lot better when it comes to the very idea of public schools, which the thugs, make no mistake, wish to close down.  This month's NJEA magazine did an in depth feature on Finland's schools, held up as the standard for their high PISA scores. What does Finland do? Firstly, 3 years maternity leave; a stipend for every parent, daycare for working parents, teachers with a required Masters degree wherein the degree focuses on PEDAGOGY ( take that Chester Finn ! ) and NO standardized tests until the final year of HS. And an education  policy run entirely by TEACHERS, not politicians or businessmen. So let's review; poverty is largely taken out of the mix since there is a strong social safety net; parents are given support, and educators are trusted to do their jobs. Well shut my mouth......
