  •  you are missing their true target: privacy (10+ / 0-)

Griswold nailed down the right to personal privacy.  The wingers hate this and argue that personal privacy is not constitutional.  They argue against the penumbra upon which this is based, arguing if it is not explicitly stated, it does not exist.  Their argument is that it would take an amendment to the Constitution to create a right to personal privacy.

They don't care about bc per se, but the destruction of this court decision is vital to them

      of the patriarchical system.

A woman who can decide for herself when or even if she becomes pregnant can compete with men, even become someone one who can boss men around.  And she has no need to be the exclusive sexual property of one man, a requirement under the patriarchical system of "I will support you and your children as long as I'm sure they're mine."

Sexual freedom, economic power....the pill threatens to give women this and more.  Which drives the "barefoot and pregnant" crowd--the "traditional family values" crowd--absolutely crazy.

Freedom has two enemies: Those who want to control everyone around them...and those who feel no need to control themselves.
