Daily Kos is becoming a divinity school all of a sudden.

Jesus said "I am the resurrection and the life. The person who believes in me, even though he dies, will live."

Not a lot of room for discussion at its most basic, and no way to look at a person's label and tell what they believe. No way to look at a person's group's label and tell what they believe. If you look at the person, long enough, perhaps you can tell. Even then it can be iffy.

the author of John said Jesus said that.  Is that same sentiment expressed in the other gospels?  Not trying to be snarky here.  My understanding is that it isn't.

added "lives in" to "believes in", it's true. It would be a bit easier to watch someone living in Christ than just believing in Christ. Probably still not all that easy, though, as you would have to still be privy to thoughts and occurrences which accompanied their judgements and actions.

As for what Jesus actually said, well that's a whole other kettle of fish. Or loaves, or something. All we usually have to go on is what the Biblical character called Jesus did.
