    My wife was raised nondenominational and uber conservative politically- she rankles under the LCMS closed communion rule, but otherwise, agrees with most of the tenets in my denomination. So we simply do not take communion when we go to church.

    However, remember that as long that prostitute, tax collector or leper adhered to the tenets of LCMS doctrine, there will always be a place at the altar for them. LCMS simply is protecting itself from giving communion to people who self select out of LCMS doctrine. It's nothing personal. It's institutional. : /

    This is the same reason I agree that communities have a right to protect themselves (ie, why gun laws are acceptable, or seat belt laws, or name it).
