  •  At this moment, (3+ / 0-)

you are absolutely right in all senses.

But if the protest grows and starts to incorporate larger segments of the 99%, it will become an issue.

Violence will (and already has) come to you, even if you are non-violent.

    What will you do?

    •  Your violence is not wanted or needed (7+ / 0-)

Of all the things that can and do happen at a protest, you being violent is the WORST thing for me and my daughter who are in attendance and for the movement as a whole.

I hope you keep your violence away from OWS.

It is not needed and those who are violent only bring violence to the non-violent.

One person, usually an infiltrator or some stupd piece of shit, throws a rock and the cops turn and beat the shit out of all of us.

*You discredit all of us who stand for peace. You discredit all the hard work my daughter does in the Peace Movement with your one, lone act of violence. *

Please, we don't need it at all.

      •  Damnit Janet, this being brings up valid issues (0+ / 0-)

that should provoke pondering.  I am not condoning or advocating violence, merely pointing something out that is being missed.

        •  Violence only begets more violence (0+ / 0-)

If you start talking about destruction
Don't you know you can count me out...

          •  Not saying do violence. Saying be aware that (0+ / 0-)

there are those who will join the movement who do not
have the same philosophy about it that you or I may have.

I think the diarist was pointing this out as something to be aware of & to consider how to prepare/deal with it.

            •  correction: commenter not diarist. (nt) (0+ / 0-)
            •  Then we read a completely different post (0+ / 0-)

because I don't know how the post could be construed any differently than the poster saying violence is a part of his "pacifism"...

Yes, we are aware that there are those who will be violent.  We call them infiltrators, usually.

I don't care what philosophy or ideals one has, but a thrown rock and the chaos that ensues afterwards doesn't really care about individual values about peace.

We do not need violence at all at these occupations.  Trust me, you do try to prepare for it.  Which is why we have non-violent trainings.

    •  You are missing the point of these movements (3+ / 0-)

We are doing this now to prevent the inevitable violence that will occur if we let things continue down the same road.

Also there are the poorest of the poor inhabiting these camps and learning from these college educated yet jobless organizers. And they know if they embrace violence the cause is lost.

And in OWS every man and woman is a King or Queen respectively because we are ridding ourselves of the hierarchy that got us here in the first place.

      I can tell you no.

Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance.
