First, it's outrageous to reduce this diary to a simplistic sentiment like "war is bad."  Americans are anesthetized, almost completely blank about the killing done in their name. It's always useful to give vivid examples of why "war is bad" is more than an abstraction.

Second, I've often seen drones touted as an example of "precision bombing."  You're just wrong on that.

I call it the "illegal bombing" of Pakistan, not the "drone campaign" or crap like that, because it is a BOMBING operation.  Bombs drop out of the sky and kill people.

It is a do things about injustice.... It helps to have a goal. I've always tried to have one.--Ted Kennedy, True Compass

When war happens, people who do not "deserve" to be killed get killed.  During a war, a military will try to kill the enemy and avoid getting killed themselves.  There is nothing special about bombs gain in accuracy during the past few decades. Every bit of ordinance is more accurate today than it's equivalent from 1945.  These matters are universal to war and do not belong to the US military alone.

As bad, inept, and uncaring as I consider the Bush administration to be, I seriously doubt their decision making included intentionally targeting women and children for the sake of targeting women and children.

IMO it is plausible they made a mistake, that they did not know the civilians were in the bomb shelter portion.  IMO it is even plausible they were aware of civilians but thought the military portion warranted the attack anyway.  I just do not think they chose to kill civillians for the simple sake of killing some civilians.

So IMO if you do not like all the bad stuff that war brings, they better response is to oppose war.  It's not much of a position to claim only America's military brigs woe to warfare.  And it is folly to pretend only America's military makes use of increasingly accurate weaponry. Virtually every military on Earth operates or is adopting unmanned aircraft.

So I return to my overly-glib summary.  War is bad.
