in Jefferson county, and Denver county, Colorado.  Suddenly our quiet, local, non-partisan School Board elections are looking a lot like national elections.  Suddenly there's HUGE amounts of money for Republican candidates, they're buying Ad time on local radio, sending out full color mailers- I got one yesterday.  I've NEVER had a mailer for a school Board candidate!  And mind you, the School Board positions are UNPAID positions.  One candidate has four kids- all home schooled- but thinks HE should be making decisions about our public schools.  the other candidate thinks we should seriously look into vouchers, despite the fact that Co. Has voted vouchers down TWICE, and Douglas county school board Is in a court battle for approving vouchers by fiat.
My advise?  No matter where you are, check your local SchoolBoard race, find out who the candidates are, and where they're getting their funding.  The most fundamental and effective place to get control of the country is through our kids, turning out good little ignorant right wingers citizens.

My mom, who lives in Wake County, got blindsided in the past school board election that put the right-wingers in. She's over 80 and didn't feel so well that day, so skipped going to the polls for "only" a school board vote.

Was she upset about it afterwards! So advise friends and neighbors too, please!
