but I've been with a Credit Union since 1999 and have NEVER looked back.  Mortgaged two homes with them as well.

They really weren't competitive on auto loans tho, so the car is financed by a larger bank.  I wanted to go CU, but I saved $175 a month by shopping around.

Also, Ive tried to refinance my boat through the CU many times over the years, but they can't match my current rate. :(

Most people think the drawback with Credit Unions is the lack of branches...but remember, if you bank with a credit union you can use the ATMs and teller windows at almost ANY OTHER CREDIT UNION for FREE.  They even have a handy website to search that for you.

This should be part of the OWS events.  Credit Unions should be down there with New Account applications leading up to Nov 5th.

My workplace just installed an ATM in our cafeteria. The machine is tied into a credit union that I do not belong to, but I can get money out of it with no charge because most credit unions allow that.

And of course, if you are traveling and just need some extra cash, it's the easiest thing in the world to go to a grocery store, buy something, and get cash back.
