I don't think it's coincidence that President Obama seems to be finding his progressive knees at this time. Political strategy means you don't show all your cards or your playbook at the beginning of the game--and Plouffe is a serious, serious strategy man. And the game is winning reelection.

Do I believe President Obama cares about improving the lives of middle class Americans? Yes.

Do I think President Obama believes in Progressivism as the way to improve the lives of the middle class? Actually I'm not sure. I don't think the people he's surrounded himself with do. That's why Elizabeth Warren was frozen out (as was Christine Romer, imo)

Obama's pivot to talking the same as he did during the 2008 campaign comes as no suprise.  Lying to people about his true intentions is all he has left if he wants to be reelected.

However, if anyone thinks he will act like a progressive, instead of merely sounding like one on occasion, then I have a bridge I want to sell you.

do well but when push comes to shove he'll support the oligarchs, not because he's a bad man but because he's a politician and in this country politicians follow power and do not lead.
