  •  The protesters could, imo, (5+ / 0-)

demand that politicians look to their constituents needs and not the needs of corporations and wall street and insurance companies and point out there is a consistent breach of faith with the voters when congress allow lobbyists to craft bills for them (ALEC) and when they vote against their constituents needs at the behest of some industry or other. And then they can point to web sites where this is all explained very clearly (smart vote?) and allow the voters to absorb the message.

That said I don't think OWS should or could promote parties or pols but they are in the position and have done so for the past month at least to give pols the message that the voters want to hear. "Bankers got bailed out the rest of us got sold out". We have Bernie and Alan who have used the OWS for good messaging about what THEY would like to accomplish.

Voters can look at that and decide if they want to have the rich folks telling them what to believe and who to vote for or whether they want to take up the banner of the folks who are, for all intents and purposes THEMSELVES.

I think the other OWS clones around the country ought to take "rich tours"  as well pointing out those well todos who don't give back, both people and corporations. (And that would include the deity Steve Jobs!)

Announcing their support for the politicians that support the 99% would be a great start.  It would clarify even further the "big divide".

Yes we can, but he won't.

    •  The forces arrayed (8+ / 0-)

against us are more entrenched and powerful than most people realize. They are not going anywhere without a HUGE fight.

The initial phase of the occupy movements is to wake up the 99% that are apathetic, uninformed, misinformed or just plain fearful. This is happening now in the increased attendances at occupy events. Longevity and inclusion of all the 99'ers in the occupy movements is the key to getting that support, regardless of political persuasion. Petitioning a totally corrupt government will never get it done and is a waste of time and energy.

Once we have that support, the second phase is worker strikes and boycotts. The only thing these corrupt bastards understand is money. That is how we will effect change and we have to be willing to do anything to achieve that or we're doomed. We must be able to choke off their supply of money and I'm not talking about just the corporations, but their water carriers as well.

The third phase, in conjunction with the second phase, is to unite the various occupy movements into an analog of the Constitutional Congress. We must elect our own slate of candidates, and bypass the two party stranglehold on the electoral process by using write-in votes.

We have the power, we just have to use it.

Now is the educational and sounding the alarm phase. And the fact that it is spreading like wildfire throughout the nation is a heartening thought. AND we are in the connecting phase and that phase includes people in this society who have been traditionally excluded and made scapegoats and it includes people who have had a voice in the "mainstream"

And it is a moment of winnowing wheat from chaff.  Who are those leaders that are capable of going into a new world order?  Because that is exactly what must happen.  It can't be business as usual. We see that we are heading towards a cliff doing that both economically and climate wise and health wise.

Whether it will be targeted strikes, targeted occupies, or what, will depend on how these young people decide where to place their courage and possibly their lives. The idea of closing out bank accounts is a good one. And with the national attention it will be more affective than local events.  LA is thinking about creating a community bank. That should free up some monies that the BofA wouldn't let go of. So with the education and the national attention some very interesting things could happen.

I beg of you all, let these young people let it play out. Support them with your money and your bodies and keep your impatience to yourself.
