  •  Great post, trillian. (4+ / 0-)

The young are not known to have a great understanding of that old wisdom,  "There by the grace of God, go I."

The young often do not understand how much luck plays a part in life, or how much will challenge your luck as you grow older, add children to your life, watch your parents grow old, see your best friend leveled by cancer, your hard working neighbor out of a job, your best laid plans turned upside down by forces beyond your control.

There is so much that is glorious about youth, but almost nothing can top it for arrogance based on lack of experience. I remember those heady youthful days when I thought I had arrived, thought I had it figured out, and I cherish the memories.

But for all the aches and pains of getting older, I'm actually happier knowing now that I'll never "arrive," never know it all, never be done learning.

It's ironic, but in a way, the humility that comes with age keeps you growing, and if you're doing it anywhere near right, your spirit gets more flexible, less judgmental, and more open to how many ways what you think today may change tomorrow.
