  •  The right WANTS a Cop War (9+ / 0-)

If we are perceived as fighting against the cops, public sympathy will fall by the wayside.  Right or wring, we will look like "anarchists" or punky kids.
It makes Wall Street look like the "grown ups."
Be polite to the cops even if it kills you.
The other thing:  Cops have a union too.  You don't want to alienate those who would probably feel great sympathy for what we are doing.
And last - at some point in your life you are going to call on a cop for protection.
They do not have an easy job.
I agree there are some big stinkers in the mix, but try to turn the other cheek.

going on in NY is just completely unreasonable. There must be a group of cops there who are in constant state of hostility.
In D.C., the cops worked with the Lawyers' Guild to facilitate our march -- even when we ended up in the street (seemed like it happened by accident) the cops intervened to hold off traffic and get us down the block.
Watching that woman outside Citibank get dragged off by 2 guys not in uniform (were they cops? who knows?), watching the NY cop beating on one person, dragging off a woman who was behind the barricades -- I think there's something really wrong with the NY police.

If, in our efforts to win, we become as dishonest as our opponents on the right, we don't deserve to triumph.
