  •  I picked up Magic's Pawn freshman year (0+ / 0-)

of college. I spent the year forcing myself to figure out what I really thought about Vanyel - I'd known people in high school who had come out, but they generally immediately distanced themselves from me because my church had a reputation I didn't know about for being homophobic as all get out.

It helped that I didn't figure out Vanyel was gay until the page where Vanyel figured it out. I was already emotionally invested in the character and couldn't just put the book on the shelf and walk away.

That summer, I was one of the people one of my friends called before he came out to his parents, and I didn't have to fumble through figuring out my beliefs while trying to offer emotional support to him thanks to that book.

Prayers and best wishes to those in Japan.

as something somewhere in the asexual spectrum of orientations... with Sherlock Holmes and Sheldon as the only two characters I can point at as examples. And my orientation isn't actually close to theirs, at all, it just falls under the same blanket classification.

Why do the asexual characters all have to be aromantics?
